What is Pro Ferrum?
PRO-FERRUM GUN FLUID - AN OVERVIEW
Unlike other old-fashioned oils on the market, Pro Ferrum was engineered from the ground up as a complex fluid to revolutionize the world of gun care. As a complex fluid, Pro Ferum’s ingredients are tailored to provide unique and specific properties at the molecular level. These molecules interact with the surface of your firearm in a physical way, filling the microscopic imperfections to create a smooth surface and a defensive barrier that protects your gun from all types of water and chemical based attacks.
Perhaps the most astonishing and defining feature of Pro Ferrum is its ability to emulsify water – but what is this ability and how does it work? Pro Ferrum automatically absorbs water on contact, immediately mixing with it and turning white to show you where any moisture is hiding and revealing its presence. At the same time the droplets of water are encapsulated, physically preventing them from contact with your gun. Pro Ferrum is also a superspreading fluid, this means it is uninhibited by surface tension and can flow freely over your gun, creating an incredibly fine layer that penetrates every part of your firearm. This superspreading property, combined with Pro Ferrum’s already uniquely small molecular structure, allows it to pass between the gun and any fouling, lifting away dirt and residue from below whilst neutralizing any damaging compounds or residues it encounters, including those deposits left behind by fingerprints when handling – just one more extraordinary property that elevates Pro Ferrum above any other product on the market.
When you consider Pro Ferrum’s extraordinary power as a cleaning agent, lubricant and protectant, it is perhaps surprising to learn that it has also been awarded the Dermatest® Guarantee Seal of Approval – this internationally recognized certification of excellence ensures that Pro Ferrum is entirely skin-safe. Unlike other gun care products, Pro Ferrum is formulated from natural plant extracts which inhibit microbial attacks when applied in its purest form. When mixed with water, Pro Ferrum is readily biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It contains no silicon oils or fluoropolymers, substances known to form corrosive and toxic Hydrofluoric acid when exposed to the high temperatures generated inside the barrel and are therefore not recommended for use. Collectively, this means Pro Ferrum is the number one choice for your gun, your hands, and the environment.
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Firearms cleaning, metal cleaning and long term metal protection, removal of water and lubrication. Pro Ferrum is also suitable for the care of wood, smooth leather, rubber and modern plastic materials of guns.
HOW TO
Cleaning effort can be minimised significantly by regularly treating your gun with Pro Ferrum after use in order to remove any form of firing or other contamination. The cleaning does not necessarily have to be particularly intensive. Even with a little maintenance and small amounts of Pro Ferrum, no deposits can build up to a critical hard layer.
“a bit of regular cleaning is better than intensively after a long time!”

EASY TO USE
- Spray Pro Ferrum directly onto wet parts.
- Wait about 30 seconds until the water turns milky.
- Wipe off with a soft, dry cloth.
- Re-apply Pro Ferrum and gently wipe down any excess with a clean dry cloth to leave a long lasting and water repellent protective barrier, and a beautiful finish.
Cleaning Gun Parts In General
- Spray some Pro Ferrum on a soft cloth.
- Wipe the gun parts with this cloth to create a very thin oil film.
- If necessary, rub with a dry cloth to absorb excess liquid.
Gunsmith's Tips:
“Pre-clean your barrel immediately after shooting and before heading home to make maintenance quick and simple!”
PRE-CLEANING OF THE BARREL
- Give a short spray into the barrel.
- Before travelling home, enclose the barrel with a soft material (cotton wool, felt, tissue). Pro Ferrum now spreads evenly inside the barrel.
- Pro Ferrum infiltrates and softens the deposits during the journey. This simple pretreatment can shorten the actual cleaning significantly and allows time for Pro Ferrum to work. After transport, clean the barrel and the firearm as follows:
Cleaning the barrel of cartridge firearms
- Put a cleaning patch or felt onto a cleaning rod and spray some Pro Ferrum on it.
- Push the rod with the patch / felt slowly and carefully through the barrel, starting at the cartridge chamber towards the muzzle. Caution: do not damage the muzzle with the tool! Check if a bore guide would be useful.
- Repeat procedure 1 to 2 until the patch / felt shows no more or hardly any residue.*
- Carefully pull one or two dry patches / felt through the barrel.
* If there are significant tombac or lead residues in the barrel, repeat steps 1 to 4 periodically for the next few days or weeks as need, or accelerate the process by using a bore snake with brass brush. Pro Ferrum is much gentler to the barrel than aggressive bore cleaners but is far more effective, especially when given time to soak.
Cleaning of muzzleloaders
- Pre-cleaning of the barrel immediately after shooting is finished; see point above. Additionally, use a soft cloth and a little bit of Pro Ferrum to wipe off all parts that show signs of fumes.
- After transport to the workshop, remove the barrel (if possible, depending on type of firearm) or connect it to a water source by means of hose connections.
- Run water through the barrel as hot as possible until the water comes out clear.
- Spray or soak a patch with Pro Ferrum and wipe the barrel with the cleaning rod.
- Repeat point 4 with a new patch until they come out nearly clean (usually, about 3 to 4 patches are needed).
- Spray sufficiently Pro Ferrum into the barrel and wait for the fluid to exit the ignition hole.
- Then, wipe the barrel inside and outside with dry patches.
- All parts of the gun which have been strongly exposed to combustion fumes should be wiped with a Pro Ferrum sprayed cloth.
Removing water from firearm
- Spray Pro Ferrum directly onto wet parts.
- Wait about 30 seconds until the water turns milky.
- Wipe off with a soft dry cloth.
- Spray again some Pro Ferrum and wipe the film with a dry cloth. Pro Ferrum recommends VFG cleaning felts, as they allow gentle cleaning with precise calibers. Together with Pro Ferrum, they provide the best synergistic properties for weapon care.
